How sites must be ranked?

Thursday, February 17th, 2005

I read various forums, blogs everyday. With every Google change there are lots of people who are dissatisfied with the results and posting various comments how google must rank the sites.
Let me ask one open question:
Lets say we search for “french modeling agencies”. How do you want to rank sites?
1. Every french modeling site one after another depending on popularity and google algo.
2. Directory with the “french modeling agencies” above the results of modeling agencies sites itself.

Lots of people with choose the answer number 1, they hate directories, they say that they are irrelevant, because searcher needs to go to another site to get to the french modeling agencies.

I would choose the answer number 2, because:
1. Not every agency has the website, but they can register to the directories their address, telephone and the name of the company. Directory results can be more complete.
2. You can’t rate agencies by google algo or internet popularity. If google will list agencies one agency after another depending on their algo, they will get internet agencies above the real and normal agencies in their index, because webmasters will work on that. Directory can rate and list the agencies different way, usually its manual editing and really good agencies can be listed above the bad ones. That makes much better result for the searcher.

So the same we can get in other types of business and I think that google strategy to give better positions to the directories was the right choice.

The change of the Internet

Wednesday, February 16th, 2005

It was always hard to start a good website, to get visitors and to earn from it without the help of Search engines. Few years ago it was easier to get links, to find partners, to be added to directories for free.
As the Internet grows, more and more websites emerges. We get more and more competition, developers gets smarter, more and more people tries to understand the way of ranking in serps. So the further we go, the harder will be to compete in various sections of internet.
Older sites of course will ask some money if you want to list your site with them. Also you should have in mind that not all the sites will get links in directories, because its irrelevant to provide hundreds of the results in one page. So owners will need to choose whom to link. Finally you will see that internet will be more commercial that ever, you will need to pay to be seen, and the price will grow with the years. Only the big pages will rank at the top, because they have money, they can promote the site, they can add more and more content, small sites will be unable to compete with the older sites unless they will have big budgets.
Thats the way it is, and you need to understand and prepare for that. It will be more and more difficult to get free links, free promotion and free traffic.

What Is A Google Datacenter?
Google datacenters are the different copies of google database located in various parts of the world.

Datacenters and Updates.
Before Google updates its main index, it makes changes at its various datacenters first. Like this google is testing their new results and implementations. It takes 2-4 days and only after it the main google index is changed.

Why Watch The Datacenters?
If you want to check the changes, to see the upcoming update, you need to look over these Ips. If you see changes in backlinks, changes in positioning then you can do some conclusions. You can see what is going on few days before the changes will happen. You are able to predict how your site will rank in the future.
