CryptoWall – a virus that can easily block your files

If you have never heard about CryptoWall then you should dedicate some time for reading this. For those who have no idea how harmful this threat is, I should say three words – file-encrypting ransomware. To be more precise, you should know that this threat is capable of encrypting predetermined files that are kept on your computer. After that, it asks to pay a fine in exchange for a code that is supposed to help you decrypt your important files. Sounds crazy right? Believe me, it is true and there are hundreds of people who have already been affected by this ransomware. What you should also know is that this virus has just been updated to CryptoWall 3.0. According to cyber security experts, at the moment of writing it is capable of encrypting an increased amount of required files, has new TOR gateways for collecting fines and an increased deadline to collect its fees.

If you want to stay safe, here’s what you have to remember: you must avoid misleading emails asking you to open their attachment and also ignore these pop-up ads offering you to update your Flash Player, FLV player or similar program. In addition, I would also recommend you to think about the reputable anti-spyware program that could help you to prevent infiltration of this and similar cyber threats. Otherwise, CryptoWall can easily appear on your computer one day. If this ransomware does that, it can easily block these files: 3fr, accdb, ai, arw, bay, cdr, cer, cr2, crt, crw, dbf, dcr, der, dng, doc, docm, docx, dwg, dxf, dxg, eps, erf, indd, jpe, jpg, kdc, mdb, mdf, mef, mrw, nef, nrw, odb, odm, odp, ods, odt, orf, p12, p7b, p7c, pdd, pef, pem, pfx, ppt, pptm, pptx, psd, pst, ptx, r3d, raf, raw, rtf, rw2, rwl, srf, srw, wb2, wpd, wps, xlk, xls, xlsb, xlsm, xlsx. As you can see, there are lots of popular extensions in this list, such as .doc, .xls, .jpg and similar.

If you want to protect your files, try to think about backups all the time. Also, I have always been saying that a reputable anti-spyware can do miracles. Unfortunately, if you can’t reach your files it might be that your machine has already been affected. In this case, you shouldn’t wait any longer. You should remove CryptoWall virus ASAP because every minute counts in this case.
